L.A.M.P. – Leadership And Mentoring Program – Ages 14+
We need lots of help to provide a fun and exciting camping experience, at an affordable price, for all the kids that we serve. Providing such an inexpensive camping experience to so many children and teens becomes a real financial trick. The LAMP program serves the dual purpose of giving young teens a guided, mentored opportunity to serve while learning a sound work ethic. Participants will be working side by side with dynamic Christian young adults from all over the United States as well as from other countries. And best yet – this program is FREE (many camps charge hundreds of dollars for similar opportunities).
Who can join?
Participants come in every shape and size and each one brings with them unique abilities and talents. Applicants must be 14 years of age or older, must be willing to submit to a thorough background check, need to fill out a L.A.M.P. Application (with references) and be interviewed by the Camp Administrator. LAMP Participants are normally asked to sign up for to three weeks during our summer season. In many cases participants are able to sign up for longer periods of time if they are working hard and following our rules and policies. All accepted applicants are required to attend our Orientation Week at the beginning of summer to learn about the camp, our program, our rules and policies and to get to know the staff and other LAMP Participants. Food, Lodging, t-shirt and a little free candy (whoo-hoo) is provided for participants while they are helping out at camp.
What will I do?
Participants are able to help out in many areas of camp program, support and maintenance. Some factors we consider are: What do you WANT to do?; Do we have any missing staff to replace during that particular week?; Are there projects that need to be done?; Does the participant have special talents or abilities that we can make use of? and etc. A large part of our decision is based on what you (the applicant) desires to do and what we learn or discuss during our interview with the applicant. If there is a specific job you’d like to do, make sure to ask, and we’ll try to work that out!
How do we choose participants?
Choosing from the applicants is almost like choosing our staff, primarily because the integrity of our program and the safety of the children is at stake. Once we receive an application the applicant is called and an interview is set up (if the applicant does not live locally a phone interview is done. During the interview the Camp Administrator will talk with the applicant about preferred jobs, training or certificates that may be required for certain jobs (e.g., Health Cards for kitchen workers). He will also ask whether the applicant is available for Staff Orientation Week and list the week(s) that the applicant would prefer to participate. References are checked and a background check is done. The applicant is then contacted and told whether or not they have been approved and, if yes, they are sent a packet of information regarding Orientation Week and the Summer Program (along with a bunch of additional forms to fill out).
How can I sign up?
Begin the process by filling out an application. Thanks for showing an interest in helping us change lives!
