Clear vision from the campfire

January 12, 2016

“They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:19-20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The power of God's creation is real. The beauty we can see in the earth and sky reveal to us God's power. When we allow ourselves to experience the beauty of God's creation we draw near to God. In fact, "everything in creation is being more or less held back. God reins it in until both creation and all the creatures are ready and can be released at the same moment into the glorious times ahead. Meanwhile, the joyful anticipation deepens.” Romans‬ ‭8:18-21‬ ‭MSG‬

It would seem the mountains and the forest know more than us, and breathe with anticipation what God has in store for those who love him. No video game, no movie or TV show, no iPad, iPod, or iPhone can ever do that. The shift in our society towards living inside, focused on a small screen, seems in some ways a shift away from God.

Ok, I do work at a camp so I'm probably biased. Send your high schooler, your college student, your children to experience a good summer camp. A safe place where they can run, and climb, and swim, and hit the pillow exhausted at the end of the day. If they do it right, if it is a good camp, it might just happen sitting under the night sky around the campfire on the 500th verse of Kumbaya. Then, everything God has made can be clearly seen.
